2011 Triumph Sprint GT

Tag: See the bikes, Triumph

The 2011 Triumph Sprint GT is one of those clever, milestone models that Triumph is famous for. The last one we saw was the Rocket III (which unfortunately turned out to be too powerful for more than a few riders to handle).

The Sprint GT is the result of a survey of Trumpie Sprint owners to see what could be improved (what a novel concept!) and was should definitely be retained as they moved to the new model. You would have to say the new Sprint GT is squarely aimed at BMW and FJR1300 riders, with a classy combination of sporty performance and touring fitout.

Thankfully (at least as far as I'm concerned) they've abandoned the horrible underseat exhaust pipes (bum burners) and gone back to a conventional single side muffler. Things retained from the ST include the hard case panniers (but with more capacity), the cartridge fork design (but improved), full touring fairings (but bigger) and the 1050cc triple engine (but with more performance).

New additions and improvements include a standard top-box mounting with an optional 55-litre top box (even has a power socket hardwired for charging electronic devices), ABS brakes and an 8-function trip computer.

Overall the 2011 Sprint GT appears a little sleeker and smoother, a little heavier, a little more powerful and a bit better equipped as a long-range touring bike.

Looking forward to seeing this model in the flesh soon! Meanwhile, here's an official video from Triumph to keep you entertained.
